and then some.
There is fire on the mountain, but no one seems to be on the run. There is fire on the mountain top, but no one isa running. I woke up in the morning... 🎶🎶🎶
Vincent knows the song from start to finish. He thoroughly loves Asa. It isn't hard to memorize Asa's lines. Asa is a proper woman. Thoughtful consistent lyrics, soulful songs, a song you could make out to. If he was awoken from sleep and asked to sing a song, he would only remember Asa's lines. He also likes rappers like Eminem, but Vincent believes those are way too fast and aggressive, and they have their own use anyway.Everyone knows he likes Asa. His mother, his brother, even Aminat, the daughter of Imam Shehu Musa, the owner of the house across theirs. The only other house that hears when he plays music loud and the only house that needs to hear. Of course, like most children of religious leaders, Aminat is beautiful. Maybe the most beautiful in 50 miles radius. Daughters of Imams and pastors are like that; beautiful, gentle and respectful, and somehow they expect boys not to chase them. Vincent thinks that hardly makes sense, it is just like the case of Cain and Abel in the garden of Eden, or was it Adam and Eve? It doesn't matter, they all fall to divine temptation. God commanded them not to eat from the beautiful, gentle and respectful fruit of the forbidden tree. What kind of impossible situation is that one? It is illogical. God should have known better. And just like the first man and the first woman, and quite truthfully, any first creature that loves anything sweet, even Vincent could not resist Aminat's sweet juicy fruit. And just like the forbidden fruit, Aminat did not complain. She never put up a fight, never even a hiss or scream unless it's for pleasure. She's a screamer, you see. Luckily only two houses are in the close; Vincent's house and hers. As I said, no one else has to hear the sounds coming out of Vincent's house.
They have a pretty standard plan for initiating the consumption and enjoyment of the forbidden fruit. Whenever Vincent switched the slow-burn soulful songs always playing on their sound system to a fast Eminem rap, it was time, and it would begin. Initiating was his eminence, Eminem's duty, and he does it well. 100 metres senior girl, she would leave whatever she was doing and run down to Vincent's house. If she was going to do ablution at the time, she would drop the kettle and fling the hijab. Vincent fancies himself a smart man and Aminat completely trusts him because of this. He waits 30 minutes after his mother leaves home before initiation. He even calls her to make sure she forgot nothing that she could come back for. He does not have to worry about his dad or brother. One travels to Abuja for weeks and the other is a boarder. I trust you know who does which. Vincent also only plays these fast rap songs when he has confirmed his mother would be going out for more than 5 hours. He makes sure there is at least 3 days between the harvest of each fruit from Aminat's supple tree to make sure she drops everything and runs to his place. The G-string effect, the more you starve Eve, the more desperate she is about the forbidden fruit, and he does like the pleasant view when she runs. He also plays his Eminem songs on the first hour so they can have enough time to themselves after the intense vitamin consumption.
Vincent likes to take it slow, you see. His father likes to tell him that he who rushes to consume the world would rush to an early grave. Vincent does not want to rush to an early grave. Vincent likes to eat his fruit the right way. By first bathing it and making sure it looks fresh and clean. Vincent may even bathe with it. Then he touches his fruit all over to prime it and make sure the fruit is impatient and is in critical need for consumption. Then Vincent peels his fruit, layer by layer, before he takes sweet gentle bites. He starts with the little bites, one at a time, then he takes the big bites, slowly at first then gradually but surely faster and harder like a rabid dog in pleasurable despair.
He can't do that today though. His Eminem songs have to be listened to using his Headset. His brother just got home for vacation yesterday and his mum won't be going for any party this weekend. He can only imagine his time with Aminat, he can imagine it and beat his stick to it, but nothing more.
And when he is not doing that, he listens to the calming songs of Asa and does his chores. Except this time, his brother is around to do all the chores. So he chats and flirts some more online, he thanks the God of Eden that Aminat does not have a phone since her Imam father has refused to buy her one claiming the internet drives innocent girls to haram. "If only he knew," Vincent contemplates this, still listening to songs of Asa.
But suddenly, it isn't the song of Asa anymore. It is a song by Vector. Artistically speaking, this isn't a problem. He loves Asa like the Eagle loves a delicious grouper but Vector isn't trash either and diversity is the spice of life. Suddenly, a black hole openes at the back of his mind, sending a huge asteroid crashing into his thought processes. Only one of them survives; Vector raps fast too. Shit! Two things. He could go to the sitting room and try to turn off the music but it had been more than a week since he last ate Aminat's fruit. He thought he would eat it this weekend but his brother suddenly came home without notice. This means that Aminat has been hungry, and like a housewife left untouched for far too long, she would have thrown the ablution kettle and her hijab down and would be almost at the door. So it is only one option really; he springs out of his room and opens the front door with such haste that even he doesn't believe the door handle didn't fall off. He saw Aminat racing to his doorstep with her huge pawpaw-sized breasts making a rotating motion in all directions, 100 meters senior girl style. He swears and curses. If not that his mum was home, he would send his brother to go play with his friends and take her in. Not slowly like he always had. But hard and faster than he had ever had. For, after all, Aminat wasn't the only one frustrated about the more-than-a-week interval this time.
He also suffered from I-Want-To-Smah-You-itis and now he has to send his only cure away. Like a thief watching his partner approaching a house with the Police inside, he throws his hand in the sky and waves fast and hard as silently as possible.
Aminat almost falls, bouncing boobs-and-confused-face first into the grassy path that connects her house to his, as she halts her next step and takes a swift turn to sprint back to her gate. That's why he likes her so much. She is so athletic. Her legs have power and she is flexible. She is everything his lustful soul longs for.
He curses Vector as he re-opens the front door to go back in. "Mother f*cker. It's where they did not call him that his dick will be stronging. M.I is yabbing him on Twitter, he took almost a week to respond. He should better gwan mind his business."
And Aminat, didn't she know that Eminem was different from Vector? Would a blind man not know the difference between the rap God that out talks Trump and brother Lanre that they are dragging on twitter?
Who the fuck played Vector anyway? It had to be his brother. Boarding schools have no shred of discipline anymore these days. He must have heard and collected songs from school. Back in his days, they would never let some kids bring a phone to school, let alone listen to music. And just like that, it had become the fault of his brother's school principal and the sorry state of discipline in Nigerian boarding schools. Life is a basket of eggs, you never know which you are gonna get. One time you are daydreaming about the girl you have steamy hot sex with, next minute you are contemplating Vector's supposed incompetence and the next you are cursing the educational system and the choice of appointed principals in school these days.
